Micro SoccerFirst of all, why Micro Soccer? We play smaller numbers of players on smaller sized fields. A wise man once taught me that placing 22 young players on a huge field and expecting them to play soccer as you see in World Cup will only frustrate the player, the coach and the parent. This is what creates “blob ball” or cluster style soccer we have all watched and laughed about. Having 22 legs trying to all kick the ball at once on a large field doesn’t teach the skills of soccer to a young player. This is why a program like micro soccer was designed. With Micro Soccer we place fewer numbers of players on smaller fields so that each player will have the opportunity to touch the ball. The more touches a player has on the ball the more skills they will develop. If children are not having fun with what they are doing they will lose interest and not participate just as if they are overwhelmed with too many players on a field. Why do we play on smaller sized fields? We play on smaller fields to avoid a game of kick and run. Soccer is not a game of boot the ball and run, it is a game of passing and ball control. We use smaller fields so players are forced to develop ball skills which benefits player’s offensive and defensive skills. Our Micro Soccer Program grows with the players as well. In every division the fields get larger, the play times get longer, the goals get larger and the number of players out on the ball increases. We want everyone involved to have fun while learning the fundamentals of soccer!
